A quality education begins with a curriculum aligned to
Common Core Standards, emphasizing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math), individualized reading texts tailored to student interest, and language acquisition for all students.
We pride ourselves on our dedicated, creative, energetic teaching staff! We use a collaborative, team approach and customize instruction based on students' strengths. We make learning engaging and encourage idea-sharing between classrooms. Our families and teachers believe in the power of community involvement, teamwork, and collaboration.
Cutting edge technology is integrated into student life at Reek. The entire building has wireless access, thus enabling use of computers and devices in all areas. All classrooms have interactive SmartBoards. In addition to a well-maintained computer lab, individual classrooms have computers and students are also 1-to-1 with Chromebooks and iPads. Teachers use a hands-on approach to engage students through online offerings and appropriate websites. Attention is always given to web privacy and security.
THREE AND FOUR-YEAR-OLD KINDERGARTEN
Reek School students are encouraged to learn through a variety of approaches including play, free choice, centers, and circle time. We provide a consistent and flexible proactive classroom experience where children learn to question, explain and make predictions. Our 3K program accommodates different learning styles and incorporates research-based teaching methods to meet the unique needs of all students and is based in the Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards (WMELS) and the Kindergarten Common Core Standards. We focus on safety, kindness, manners and positive behaviors in our daily activities.
We believe many lessons are learned outside the classroom
and provide outlets for students to grow and flourish beyond the scope of the school day. Our programs in arts, athletics, and community service offer a variety of options.
EMPHASIS ON CHARACTER
We strive to educate the whole student by recognizing academic, emotional and social components of children's development. In our nurturing culture, we emphasize and support positive behaviors. The 3-year-old through 8th grade structure of the school allows for peer modeling. Leadership opportunities are abundant for older students as they help the younger grades with learning help, which ultimately promotes and strengthens responsibility and character development. We are an inclusive school community where the dignity of every human being is respected.
Our beautiful location in the country furthers our science education. Children explore the natural world and engage in hands-on learning, community partnerships in environmental education, and exploration of ecosystems and life skills through our Outdoor Education (OE) program, the most extensive in the area. Our 5th and 6th grade students spend an entire week at nearby Camp OH-DA-KO-TA as culmination of a semester-long biome research project which addresses multiple Common Core State Standards and provides opportunities for life skill development in meal preparation and budgeting.
MUSIC AND SPORT OPPORTUNITIES
A strong music and band program is part of the curriculum at Reek School. Students choose an instrument and take lessons beginning in fourth grade with opportunities provided for band and music festivals and workshops. In addition, at Reek School boys and girls in grades 5-8 have the chance to engage in four years of sport activities, allowing them to develop their skills in preparation for high school. Available offerings are volleyball, basketball, track and field, cross country and cheerleading.
