The UW-Whitewater Observatory will open up its telescopes in October for all ages. (weather permitting) See planets, star clusters and nebulae through telescopes! Indoors, examples will be shown of how astronomers break light up into a rainbow spectrum to learn about the chemical composition of stars and nebulae. Computers will also be set up to allow you to look at data from modern telescopes – on a “citizen science” website set up by Professor Bob Benjamin – and make discoveries for yourself! If the weather is cloudy, we will also give tours of the big telescope and show you how it operates, even if the dome has to stay closed.
Free parking closest to the observatory is in Lot 2, 203 N. Prince Street, Whitewater, WI 53190.
